35°28′21″N 78°54′26″W – Raven Rock State Park is a State Park located near Lillington, North Carolina founded in 1969. The park features a crystalline structure that is 150 feet tall which is located along the Cape Fear River and stretches nearly one mile. The rock itself was originally called Patterson’s Rock by an early settler that discovered the rock formation when his canoe overturned near in the area. The name was changed to Raven Rock due to the number of ravens that used to perch on the rock ledges.
Recently renovated with solar night lights and a new visitors center, the park offers a great place for some short hikes, canoeing and fishing along the Cape Fear River. The most popular hiking trail at Raven Rock is the Raven Rock Loop Trail which is about 1 mile long. The trail splits off into two directions, one which leads to the actual rock formation and the other to a stone overlook area just above the Cape Fear River.
