Pioneer Exteriors: Ricky Sawyers

Yet another disappointing contractor, following in the footsteps of Joey West. I really don’t like to drag people or their businesses down. In fact, I’d much rather write something positive about them, however sometimes people have to be held accountable for their lack luster business etiquette. Yes, you read that right - personal accountability. I know it’s a term that isn’t associated with a lot of people these days. Well in the roofing business the same applies.

I emailed Pioneer Exteriors, a Raleigh-based home repair company. Lynn Pittman returned my call and told me he had a roofing guy in the area that does a lot of work for them. He told me to contact Ricky Sawyers of the Smithfield area and said that he does great work. He takes time with his customers, takes photographs of the repair jobs, explains to the customers what he will have to do to make the repairs as well as guarantee his work. It sounded like I had found the right guy. As soon as I hung up the phone with Lynn, I called Ricky and he answered. I told him about the problem with the leak in my roof. The roof had been leaking for a while and had ruined the sheetrock in my den. I told him it was urgent and that I needed someone to take a look at it as soon as possible. It was Monday or Tuesday when I talked to him and he said he would have me an estimate by Friday. Well Friday rolled around and there was no sign of Ricky and no sign of an estimate, but there was still plenty of rain and water damage headed my way. I gave him time and waited until late Saturday evening to call him. No luck - he didn’t even answer his phone, nor did he return my call after I left a voicemail. The following Monday I called him after work and he picked up the phone and asked him about whether he was going to return my call or not. He said, “yea I’ve been a little under the weather.” I gave him one more shot at coming out. He said he would come Tuesday morning before he headed up to Raleigh (supposedly to his bigger accounts) and do the estimate and get me fixed up. No Show Sawyers does it again. So, the moral of this story is as my Uncle Marvin put it: “Sometimes you have people that like to talk big but when it comes time to get something done, they fall between the cracks.” Couldn’t have said it better myself.
