Low Boardwalk – Congaree National Park

The main attraction at Congaree National Park is its Boardwalk Trail Loop. The loop is about 2.4 miles and features two different types of terrain. The Low Boardwalk part of the loop is around .5 miles long one way and starts at the Harry Hampton Visitor Center. This part of the park features some of the world’s tallest cypress trees and a floodplain that floods on average, 10 times per year. If you like squirrel-watching, you will be right at home. There are tons of squirrels! This part of the boardwalk also is called “low” for a reason. The platform is only about 1-2 feet off the forest floor. Be sure to check with the national park service on rainfall and the risk of potential flooding before venturing down the trail.
