Lake Benson Park

Sunday I ventured out to Lake Benson Park in Garner for a change in scenery. It was a tad cool outside for an afternoon run, but I warmed up after a few laps. The great thing was that there were other people running! It has been relatively lonely running out at South Johnston for the past three months. It’s motivating to see others striving to keep in shape.

Lake Benson Park was very pretty. Lots of places for kids to play and an open field for playing catch or what not. There were shelters and picnic areas where you could grill out. There were a few lookout places on the north side of the lake with park benches. It’s a nice place to get away from the hustle and bustle. The trails there were very nice, especially through the woods. There were several wooden bridges to help cross ditches and well-cleared paths that gave plenty of room for walkers and runners. Well I thought the trails were wide enough, apparently not for me since I’m a dork. I was trying to change the song on my Ipod while running and I took my eye off the ground and found myself lying on it shortly there after. I tripped on a short root, slid down and tore a few nice pieces of flesh out of me, but other than that I’m fine. I’m actually going to take the rest of the week off and get ready for Sunday since I pushed myself to 10 miles yesterday. Sooo wish me luck. Hopefully I’ll have some pictures.
