Jesus-O-Lantern

I finally got around to carving my artifical pumpkin last night. I really like the artifical kind because they aren’t as messy when you carve them, they don’t rot, and you can use them again next year! The only draw back is that you can’t put real candles in them because they are flammable. If you are interested, you can purchase these at Michael’s crafts stores.

Anyway, there has been so much commotion about how Halloween is un-Christian and how un-Christian we may be for putting jack-o-lanterns on our front porches. It really raises questions about those pointing fingers. Do they really understand where jack-o-lanterns came from? They were derived from a mexican holiday called, “Day of the Dead” where the mexicans honored their deceased ones and they placed these jack-o-lanterns near their graves to detour evil spirits. Now, that isn’t as horrid as we thought was it? Well I figured I’d administer another slap to the face of those condemning the harmless holiday of Halloween and those satanist jack-o-lanterns. I think most would agree that Jesus would do a pretty good job at scaring the evil spirits away, so yes, I carved Jesus’ face on my pumpkin this Halloween. This is a perfect example of taking something perceived as bad by most people and turning it into something good. On another note, I went trick-or-treat’ing pretty much every year when I was a kid and I turned out just fine (I think)–how silly to think Halloween could turn a child into a demon possessed individual. Pa-lease!

That is so true! I even dressed up as a witch with my face painted green in the 5th grade and I turned out fine too, I think.
