First Black President

For starters, I thought that was Bill Clinton? Sorry I’ve been on a political rant lately, but it’s election time and I can’t help but reply to the hooplah that surrounds me every time I tune into cable news or talk radio. So back to Obama - why is it he is automatically considered to be African American and ordained to be America’s “First Black President”? His mother was white, his Dad was black. The media is so focused on the hype of America producing a female or black President that it sometimes typically forgets logic. Maybe I just don’t know how that works? My main complaint is that the media should quit making this a race of sexes/races and focus on picking the right person for the job. No I’m not racist and no I’m not apologizing so don’t give me the comparisons to Don Imus.

I agree whole-heartedly.

The media have turned this all into a sordid high-school popularity contest. Completely ignoring some candidates, (Ron Pual, Kucinich, etc) and giving others way too much spotlight. They [media] should definitely focus more on the issues and let the American populace decide on that, as opposed to the color of the candidate’s skin or gender.

Love your work, by the way. I got carried away in my past few posts and forgot to mention that.

I’ve always had a beef with the race labeling crap. The same goes for Halle Berry being the “first black woman to win an Oscar” when she’s really not. So I’ve heard people say that because of the one drop rule, people like her and Obama are considered black. But since a lot of folks think this is antiquated, I wonder why the media still uses this African American blanket. I guess the media need to create their own hype because the bigger the audience, the more you can charge for advertising space. I’m ashamed of our media. If I become president, will the media say I’m the first Peruvian prez (having 1/8 in my blood)? No, they won’t.
