Cracking the Window

Let me start by saying I’m not knocking smokers. To each their own, I just do not care to smell it — now on with the story. I was on the way back to work today from lunch when I took notice of a happening that I cannot understand. I saw two or three smokers lit up in their cars smoking away. They were the only ones in the car — no passengers whatsoever. I guess the part I don’t understand is why they crack (roll down) their windows slightly to let the smoke escape? Why not consume not only the 1st hand smoke, but the 2nd hand smoke as well? For some reason they don’t like smelling it after it is exhaled — maybe those that crack their windows should try keeping their windows up when driving alone and think about us non-smokers. We had rather smell dead roadkill than 2nd hand cigarette smoke. Not only that, what would be the difference in having a pass-gas section in a restaurant filled with gaseous guys that partook in eating pork and beans and deviled eggs the night before and having that scent drift over to someone in the non-pass-gas section of the restaurant? It wouldn’t be too pleasant I bet for people that spent their hard earned money to come and eat without choking from an unpleasant smell. So next time you light up, think about smelling something god awful before you are inconsiderate to others around you. Oh and try not to display a double standard when it comes to smoking. If you are going to smoke, then smoke it all. Anyone else feel that way?

Wow, I really got on a rant huh?

I completely agree. I dislike smokers. Everyone on my moms side of the family died from smoking cigarettes (cancer). I have never even so much as touched a cigarette. They completely disgust me and I don’t think that anyone who doesn’t smoke should have to put up with cigarette smoke from people who are addicted to it. It’s not something that we should just “have to deal with”. Secondhand (and FIRSTHAND) smoke kills people, it’s been proven, and I think it’s pretty screwed up that someone doesn’t step in and fix this problem. I mean, the goverment protects us from being bombed by terrorists… why can’t they stop people from killing us (ssslllloooowwwwllllyyyy) with cigarette smoke? I don’t know about you, but I think I’d rather die quickly in a bomb than have a lifetime of dealing with asthma and cancer from having to “put up” with someone else’s smoke. Everytime I pass a smoker I cough and wave my hand in front of my face and give them a dirty stare. I hope they get my message… because no one else seems to be sending them one!

Wow, you are nasty, nasty people. You need to watch the 20/20 special “myth busters” Your so called “proven” theory that second hand smoke kills is not true….any small amount you may possibly inhale is completely reversable. And there are many more things that are worse for you. Like the exhaust from your car. And a million things in the world that smell as badly as cigarette smoke. Check your breath-it might be one of them. Now really…..is cigarette smoke that offensive to you that it gives you the right to be nasty and mean to complete strangers? Would you be that vocal to someone if it was their breath that offended you. Cuz that is probably just as likely to kill you as second hand smoke. Maybe you just want an excuse to hate. You wouldn’t be a religious person would you?

What I think is completely ironic…is that the society that condoned smoking in the past is now the one that condems the people they got hooked on smoking in the first place.

My mouth doesn’t taste like an ash tray, so I cannot be the nasty one. I’m going to die of something and I’m pretty sure 2nd hand smoke will not be the cause, but that doesn’t mean I want to smell that stank when I’m eating. I care less about the health aspect of it and more about my clothes smelling like I’ve been burning leaves all day and the splitting headache it gives me. Maybe you’ve experienced breath that can linger from one side of a restaurant to another, but I haven’t. I hope the dear Lord helps them if it’s that bad. That really isn’t a good argument, come back with something a little more thought provoking. I don’t hate anyone but I hate smoke. Christians can’t hate cigartette smoke? That is purdy good!

Smoking is a personal choice — smokers weren’t forced to put that stank stick up to their pretty little lips. You must be another one of these liberals that can’t take personal responsibility for your actions :-)

Hey Your Conscience….would you like a landfill plopped down next door to your residence? Or maybe a hog farm? I am willing to bet you’d be pretty vocal about opposing something that smelled like that being located near your house. Everytime you go out to do yard work the westerlies would be ushering in a breath of heaven that was so strong you would nearly puke.

That’s how I feel about smoke. The smell of it makes me sick. Whether it causes cancer or not, a vast majority of people don’t like to smell it. And if a complete stranger has the right to take a drag off a cigarette and blow the smoke downwind to me….I have the right to say what I want to say about it. What we have here is an individual attempting to make a cigarette smoker appear to be a victim of non-smokers. This is hilarious. Definitely a liberal.

LOL…..Wow, now you think you can speak for the vast majority of people? And both of you have dismissed the health aspect so what it boils down to is a justification to mean to other people. The word I would use is probably judgemental. What ever happened to tolerance. It comes in all forms you know. Isn’t that what we are taught as christians? If that makes me a liberal so be it. I will be a liberal with strong christian morals. Let me just tell you this….I am not advocating smoking or think the smell is pleasant by any means BUT I don’t shoot people nasty looks or cuss them out because they do or anything else that offends my nose for that matter. Personally because of my allergies, if I go to a restaurant or bar that is smoke filled my nose become slightly stuffed up within a short time and then all the smells don’t bother me. Like the people that wear way to much cologne or the guy with nasty coffee breath or the person that has animal hair on their clothes to name a few. Which has much more of a miserable effect on me. Personally, I think coffee is replusive smelling but I don’t go to Starbucks and be nasty to the people there. I mean, come on guys, think about it. These people don’t smoke just to piss you off. Lighten up!

The word I would use is inconsiderate. I never brought up the health aspect. The article is talking about how people are inconsiderate to others and automatically assume that we should enjoy the burnt aroma as much as they do. I think I’m very tolerant as a Christian. I don’t recall myself getting up out of my seat and start shaking the violator uncontrollably, or shouting obscenities to them across a restaurant. Being a Christian has absolutely zilch to do with hating cigarette smoke or vice versa. Quit trying to make this a religious issue, that’s ridiculous. You have a point with the cologne thing, but it’s not an epidemic like smoking. Most people tend not to wear the entire bottle. Hmmm, coffee and Starbucks — well they DO specialize in coffee, so I would say don’t go if you don’t want to smell it. I can’t find a restaurant that specializes in cigarettes — wait maybe I can lol.

Bottom line, I don’t care if they are a dog smoking it out of their butts, upside down standing on their heads, I don’t like to smell it. It stinks and I should not have to put up with it when I go out to eat. Now if you want to talk hypocritical, let’s talk about the tobacco farmers that hate cigarette smoke.

Interesting reads. I dislike people that smoke in restaurants, convienent stores, or places that others that do not smoke are going to be visiting. I think it is rude and shows a lack of respect. I think that if they can’t eat without lighting up, or walk into a store without a cigarette in their hand, they need to stay at home. However, am I gonna pitch a fit…probably not, but complian about it yep you bet!
