Javascript Fading Scroller

Thursday, December 13th, 2007

Today Tony suggested that I put in a nice scrolling javascript testimonial section on slicemydesign.com. It features a scrolling preview of all the testimonials on the frontpage. With a bit of javascript and some css styling from Dynamic Drive, I was able to provide a nice and simple display of all my thumbs up!

Remove Gamma from PNGs

Tuesday, June 26th, 2007

Hopefully those of you that have been racking your brains trying to figure out why your colors in a PNG file don’t match those in a GIF or JPG, will find this small article useful. I ran across this problem when trying to use a PNG file to overlay a page background image was another file type such as GIF or JPG when both images needed to represent the same color. Firefox typically renders the images correctly, but I’ve found that IE6 and Safari have problems with it. To deal with the problem you need to remove the Gamma from the PNG file. Fortunately I ran across a program that will remove it for you: pngcrush.

The program can be downloaded for Windows and runs in command line DOS. If you are familiar with command line, just enter the following code (replacing infile and outfile with your file names):

pngcrush -rem gAMA -rem cHRM -rem iCCP -rem sRGB infile.png outfile.png

Refresh your page and watch the colors match :)

Work at Home Opportunities

Wednesday, May 23rd, 2007

I’ve always been beat up by my family about how I worked at home for 5 years and how I had it made. I could probably argue that point, although the sleeping until 11am was certainly nice. Nonetheless, consumer advocate Clark Howard has listed a few “work at home” opportunities on his website and I decided to list them here. He supposedly did the background checks on the these companies and they are safe to work with. It’s a good idea to check these out thoroughly yourself before getting involved:

alpineaccess.com
virtual call center provider using home-based customer service agents

intellicare.com
call center company that provides clinical and non-clinical telephone services to health plans, healthcare providers, and care managers nationwide

liveops.com
virtual call center using remote and home-based agents. Requires $30 fee for background check

workathomeagent.com
be an “at-home-agent” after getting certified

workingsolutions.com
be a home-based customer service agent
