Day 2: Grand Canyon

Sunday, September 17th, 2006

What an experience! Arizona has to be one of the cleanest and most beautiful states in America. I cannot put into words or pictures the magnificence of what I have seen today, although the pictures are pretty amazing I must say. We got up around 6am and left around 7am and headed north on I-17 to Flagstaff. The views from just that portion of the trip were amazing and we hadn’t even gotten to the Grand Canyon. The landscape changed so many times as well as the temperature. It was close to 97 today in Phoenix and when we arrived to the South Rim of the Canyon, it was around mid 60’s. I’m glad I brought a long sleeve shirt along. We stopped at almost every viewing area along the South Rim and even did a little climbing here and there. As we neared the East entrance to the Grand Canyon, we turned around and went back to book ourselves a last minute helicopter tour of the Canyon. It lasted about 30 minutes and was worth every penny! You really cannot perceive the size of the Grand Canyon unless you do the helicopter tour. It truly puts it in perspective. After we finished, we went back to the East entrance and entered the Painted Desert, which was absolutely awesome. Anyway, enough rambling. It is late and I need to head to bed. Of course the pictures are uploaded and below are a few videos I shot with my digital camera. Ahight den.

There is an Arizona

Saturday, September 16th, 2006

You know that country song “There is no Arizona”, well we disproved that :-) I’m sitting in the lobby now about 9:30pm our time, 12:30 ET in Phoenix, AZ. What a beautiful place! Everything is so nice, clean and tidy. We had an eventful day, mostly flying of course. We all arrived in one piece around 5pm ET. Dad handled his first flying adventure well and all is well. The place we are staying is awesome! JW Marriott Resort & Spa I believe is the name of it. Google it and see what you come up with. I have added my first slew of pics up top if you care to browse them, compliments of my new digital camera. Well I reckon I’m going to run upstairs and go to sleep. We’re all worn out and we are getting up early for a 4 hour trek to the Grand Canyon. That should be a sight! Das all for now.

Outer Banks Road Trip

Sunday, September 3rd, 2006

Before today I had never been to the Outer Banks. Mom suggested yesterday that we should ride down there for the day just for the heck of it and see what we could find. So Dad, Mom, Kelly and I piled into the highlander and drove up to Kitty Hawk to the Wright Brothers Memorial which was pretty cool. I really found that I liked that area of the coast, not overly commercialized and most of the houses there looked new. After Nags Head and Kitty Hawk we slid on down towards Cape Hatteras to see the lighthouse, which was a little bit of a disappointment for me. I had envisioned something much taller and actually near the beach. I realize they had to move it due to erosion, but it wasn’t what I thought it was going to be.

Flying Scare - Nice Job.

Thursday, August 10th, 2006

I love how terrorists decide they want disturb traveling the one day I fly somewhere on this planet. Tony gave me a call yesterday and wanted to know if I would fly out to Vegas to meet Mike Nott, one of the heads at PartyGaming.com. It was a spur of the moment thing so I thought about it and called him back and said yes. So this morning I arrived at RDU around 7am. Little did I know that I would be leaving my toiletries behind because of some towel heads in the UK plotting to blow up 10 or more planes with gel based explosives. Nice job guys. It nearly caused me to miss my flight
