FlipMyDesign

I’ve decided since I’ve had quite a bit of success with SliceMyDesign, I should start a streamlined design service for those that need low-cost web design in a hurry. It’s mainly for people who purchase old websites that want a new look to their site in order to increase traffic. I wanted to tie it in to my current business with the same theme, so I came up with FlipMyDesign. If you know anyone who needs this type of service, send them my way!

VistaPrint

For many people, traditional printing services can get very expensive. Their services can especially run high in cost if you want a small print job or if you get into four color process projects, plus the turnaround time could become lengthy. Vistaprint.com is a nice solution for those that only want a handful of business cards in a four color process without ordering thousands or paying for pre-press setup costs. They offer a variety of products that you can customize yourself with uploaded artwork and they also offer graphic services to assist you if you are not graphically inclined. I have ordered quite a few business cards from them and have been pleased everytime. One of the few dislikes I have about VistaPrint is the constant badgering of their automated recordings. They use your phone number to market their sale prices and products. If you would like to avoid that, be sure to enter a bogus number upon registration. The last thing I dislike is the turnaround time if you want a rush job. There is no printing rep that can push your order ahead for extra money. You can put your order in as a rush, but it takes 3 business days to get the product. Overall, it’s a good service if you do a lot of print work. I can’t remember the last time I used a traditional print shop for my work.

Diabetes Cured in Mice

Monday, December 18th, 2006

Toronto researchers have successfully cured type-1 diabetes in mice “overnight”. Defective nerve endings in the pancreas could perhaps be the culprit of triggering the disease. “Defective nerve endings may attract immune system proteins that mistakenly attack the pancreas, destroying its ability to make insulin, the researchers said. This destruction is what causes diabetes.” The mice were cured by injecting a piece of protein or peptide to immediately reverse the disease, making this a very hopeful way of creating a drug to cure human diabetes.

For a little on-the-side cash I’ve started my own design slicing service (SliceMyDesign.com). It appears that this is a growing idea on the web for busy web designers that need someone to slice and dice their design, so they can do more designing and less coding. It also alleviates the pressure on me as a designer to stop the going back and forth changing elements of a design and will allow me to code the design and deliver a timely and well documented project. If you know anyone that needs a design coded, please let me know.
