A Heeling Has Occurred

Thursday, April 7th, 2005

It’s been twelve long years since North Carolina won its last championship. Carolina fans had forgotten how it felt to win since the departure of Dean and Company. The 2005 Championship means so much, but in various ways to various people. To the coach, Roy Williams, this championship ‘heels’ those past championship game defeats during his tenure at Kansas University. To the three seniors, Jawad Williams, Melvin Scott, and Jackie Manuel, this championship has ‘heeled’ their scars of the (8-20) season under coach Matt Doherty. Most of all, the fans have been ‘heeled’ and have been allowed to regain their confidence in the greatest basketball program in the nation. Winning has made its way back to Chapel Hill.

OLD: Gets the kiss

Thursday, February 24th, 2005

Tonight I spent a somewhat quiet evening at home after eating some spaghetti, working on our new business website and watching some college basketball off and on. There were a couple of good games on tonight, the latter being a matchup between Villanova and Boston College. Yeah I know, I must be really bored. I was, but anyway. I left the television on while I was doing some website work, so I could hear the game and how it was progressing. It just so happens Bill Raftery was one of the commentators for the game. Most people that follow March Madness and college hoops knows this guy. One of his favorite phrases when someone banks in a shot is, “how romantic, he gets the kiss off the glass”. Normally I hear it about one time per game from his cake hole. Well tonight I think his brain was still stuck on Valentine’s Day. I wish I had a dollar for everytime he quoted his little phrase “Gets the kiss”. It was actually starting to make me feel sick. I mean it was cute after the first 100 times I heard it. I’m sure his commentating partner was wondering when he was going to button his yapper. Come on Raftery, get a new line.

Clutch Shooting

One of life’s simple pleasures is when you’re tied 9-9 in a pickup basketball game and you throw up what could be the game winning shot out of your butt while the defender is flying towards you and he slaps your hand. Of course the pleasure comes from seeing the net pop and seeing the opponents’ heart break simultaneously.
