Allan Handelman, Grow a Brain

I’ve listened to the Allan Handelman Show off and on for about a year now. Some of his shows are great, some of them not. During his political shows he definitely drifts to the hard left but still tries to paint himself an independent. I’ve heard his continuous rant about how offshore drilling will not make our situation any better. He keeps telling his audience how hard-headed the pro-drilling folks are because the oil would not stay in the USA. He is probably right, if someone outside the USA wants to buy the oil at a higher price than companies in the USA, then we export it. That’s great for us! It’s a global economy Allan! The more oil we export and the less we import ultimately brings the price down! That’s not terribly hard to understand. I bet I hear him say it at least a gazillion times everyday on the air. Stop misinforming people.

Allan Handleman sounds as if he is doing something else when he is interviewing guests. I have heard him ask a question of a guest immediately after the guest had given the answer. I have never heard anyone so ready to switch sides when someone argues a point against what he is saying…..he claims to be independent and impartial, it doesn’t come across that way to me. He is always fishing for compliments from his audience with questions like “who is the most impartial and fair talk show host you know” and then when a caller calls in with someone he jumps right in and says something about how fair he is and what he does to show his independence. He just doesn’t come across as a very smart person.

Back in the mid-1990’s in Charlotte, NC I lived in the same apartment complex as Mr. Handelman. Talk about a strange dude. I remember getting to know him a little when we spoke while walking our dogs. At some point he took offense to something he imagined me saying or doing and began acting aloof and basically like a pouting child. I never forgot that especially since he is a radio personality. It was my first lesson that celebrities—and even quasi celebrities—-are freaks.
Seriously, I recall a lot of people that got a strange vibe from Mr. Handelman. I would not be surprised if he turned out to be a serial killer is his spare time.
